LLE offers efficient and convenient assessment services which help you evaluate potential interpreters, translators, and other job candidates. Most assessments can be accessed through our test portal, where your organization can distribute assessments to candidates and see their scores 24/7.

Language Proficiency Assessment – Speaking and Listening

Speaking and listening assessments are designed for assessing the proficiency of potential or current employees required to communicate in a foreign language. LLE offers two versions: live and automated. Their key features include:

Automated Assessment

The automated assessment is available 24/7 over the phone, is pass-fail based on an ILR 3 score, uses pre-recorded prompts, and is evaluated later by a trained, native speaker. The automated assessment is an excellent tool for rating larger numbers of candidates in a smaller time frame.

Live Assessment

The live assessment is graded on the ILR scale and is useful for evaluating the proficiency of a smaller number of candidates.

For more information, see our Language Proficiency Assessment page.

Interpreter Skills Assessment

Interpreting aptitude requires more than proficiency in a given language. It requires a high degree of language knowledge and abilities unique to an interpreting position. The Interpreter Skills Assessment tests both language and interpretation skills.

Like LLE’s other tests, results are available in two business days. For more information, see our Interpreter Skills Assessment page.

Writing and Reading Assessments

LLE’s writing assessment has these key elements:

  • 60 minutes in length
  • Pass-fail at an IRL 3 score
  • Available in 30 languages
  • Tests candidates’ ability to accurately write on an abstract or complex issue in their foreign language

A similar reading assessment that evaluates reading comprehension is available in Arabic, which is currently the most popular language for government agencies.

Writing and reading assessments can be assigned 24/7 through your organization’s account in LLE’s test portal.

Translation Assessment

Translation skill assessment consists of the following:

  • Translation from foreign language to English
  • Comparison of candidates’ translation to a predetermined sample translation
  • Timed test (120 minutes) to evaluate efficiency

The Translation Assessment is designed to evaluate an individual’s ability to:

  • Accurately render content and meaning from one language to another
  • Maintain proper grammar
  • Preserve the same effect on the reader as the original text

The translation assessment can be assigned 24/7 through your organization’s account in LLE’s test portal.

How can you tell they speak their other language as well as they speak English?
